How Does Auto Transport Work?

Step 1

Get Your Car Shipping Quote And Book It Online Or Over The Phone

Begin by getting an instant quote from our online car shipping cost calculator, or by speaking with a car shipping expert over the phone. To get an instant quote or find out about our service options Simply enter your origination and destination zip codes. Then choose the year, make and model of the vehicle(s) you are shipping. Select whether it is running or non-running. And then finally, choose whether you wish to go Open or Enclosed transport. That’s it. You should see your car shipping cost in a  few seconds.

Once you’re ready to book us, simply click the link in your email or on page quote, start a chat with us, or call 888 277-8212  to schedule your vehicle pick up. There is no upfront payment or deposit required to book your order. By the way, Our low-risk car delivery service is suitable for any budget.

Once we receive your order We will contact you immediately while securing one of our 14000+ vetted and insured professional truckers to transport your vehicle.

Step 2

We Pick Up Your Car And The Vehicle Transport Journey Begins

One of our Dispatchers  will work with you to arrange a vehicle pickup date ,time and  an easy-to-access pickup location which works best for you.

Before we transport your car, make sure it’s clean inside and out, remove the valuables, loose parts, toll tags and make sure there’s at least a quarter tank of gas for loading and unloading.

On the day of pickup, you and the trucker will inspect your vehicle to notate pre existing damages and other concerns. Once the inspection is over and The Bill of Lading  is signed, your vehicle will start moving to its destination.

Your vehicle will be in good hands and fully insured during the transport. If you would like to track your shipment you can use our website 7/24 or call  your trucker directly to see where your vehicle is on its journey.

Step 3

The Trucker Delivers Your Vehicle

The trucker will  call the day before to alert your destination contact of his pending arrival, and will give a rough estimation of what time of day to expect.

The trucker  will come as close to your address as safely and legally possible. Any balance due on your vehicle shipment can be paid to your trucker upon arrival.

Once the trucker does arrive, you and the driver will conduct a final vehicle inspection to make sure everything looks good. Then you’ll simply sign the Bill of Lading to accept your delivery and the driver hands over the keys. That’s it! Shipping is more complicated with other transport companies, But it’s as simple as 1, 2, 3 with Safemile Auto Transport.

Why Shipping Your Car Is Better Than Driving It?

The United States is one of the busiest countries in terms of road traffic with nearly 284 million vehicles in operation as of the third quarter of 2021. This level of traffic is one of the reasons leading to more road accidents: In 2019, there were some 12.5 million vehicles involved in crashes in the United States, with over half that volume being passenger cars. We know that it might sound scary to take that risk. In addition, when you're driving cross-country you will add thousands of extra mileage to your vehicle and you will probably pay a lot of money for strange hotels along the way. You should also remember that, especially in this period when the gas prices are quite high, you will have to spend a lot of money on fuel on your trip.Instead of considering all this, let us deliver your vehicle right to your door with affordable prices.

Here at Safemile Auto Transport, we are proudly providing stress free, five star car shipping services anywhere in the U.S. Our experienced shipping experts are available 7 days a week to answer all your questions.Give us a call Today at (888) 277-8212 and get more details.

  • When will my vehicle be delivered?

    -Delivery Time Estimate Guide;

    100-500 miles takes 1 or 2 days
    500-1000 miles takes 2 or 3 days
    1000-1500 miles takes 3 or 4 days
    1500-2000 miles takes 4 or 5 days
    2000-2500 miles takes 5 or 7 days
    2500-3000+ miles takes 7 or 10 days

Depending on the distance, weather conditions and population centers it could be a few days or weeks until a vehicle reaches its destination. The carriers usually estimate about 10 days on coast to coast trips, but they frequently arrive earlier.

  • Do I need a vehicle title or registration to ship it?

No, all you need are the keys and the vehicle.

  • How do I get my car ready for shipment?

    - Make sure your car has been completely clean, both inside and outside so the trucker can make a proper inspection of any existing scratches or dings. You will also want to make sure there are no additional personal items in the vehicle unless you intend to ship those with the vehicle (remember those items must total less than 100 pounds combined and kept in the trunk or back seat below the window-line of the vehicle). Remove all loose parts attached to the body, any non-permanent luggage, bike or ski racks Be sure to inform the driver of any special circumstances concerning the vehicle.

  • How do I know my pick-up date and time?

After a truck has been assigned/dispatched, we will text and email you a "dispatch notification" with the estimated pick up/loading date along with the trucker's name and phone number. The trucker usually calls a few hours ahead of pick up/delivery to notify you of his approximate arrival at your address. Special arrangements can be made upon request.

  • What is the bill of lading and what exactly does it have to do with my shipment?

    - The bill of lading is a very important document used by car shipping companies to document any pre-existing damage on the vehicle during the time of pickup. It also serves as a record of your contact info and the official agreement for transport. If you want to file any insurance claim regarding your shipment you will need the Bill of Lading.

The final function of the Bill of Lading is as a receipt for the transaction. While the customer booking the transaction or the owner of the vehicle does not need to be at pickup nor delivery to sign the Bill of Lading personally, it is highly recommended that a representative who is at least 18 years of age is there to sign it because it is an important legal document for the transaction.

  • Can I ship a car from an auto auction?

    - Yes, we ship dozens of cars each year from salvage auctions and other types of auto auctions. Each auction will have different requirements to release a vehicle and we'll get all the necessary details from you at the time of booking. Please make sure the vehicle is fully paid and ready for release from the auction. Also be aware that if a vehicle is booked as operable but it turns out that the vehicle is inoperable, there will be an additional cost and the original trucker may not be able to accommodate an inoperable vehicle. In that case, We will arrange you another trucker who has a winch to load your vehicle.

  • Can you guarantee a pick up or delivery date and time?

Yes, we can guarantee pick up date(s). All you need to do is decide whether you need the car picked up by a specific date or on a specific date, which will determine the extra cost involved to guarantee your time frame. Please call for a customized quote if you need guaranteed pick up date(s). However, because anything can happen on the road, the auto transport  industry does not guarantee delivery dates.

  • How do I get my car ready for shipment?

    - Make sure your car has been completely clean, both inside and outside. This is particularly important because this will help the driver conduct their inspection in order to assess any pre-existing damage on your vehicle. You will also want to make sure there are no additional personal items in the vehicle unless you intend to ship those with the vehicle (remember those items must total less than 100 pounds combined and kept below the window-line of the vehicle). Be sure to inform the driver of any special circumstances concerning the vehicle. Finally, make sure there is a quarter tank of gas in the car at the time it is picked up for shipment.

Remove all antennas and loose parts, toll tags and parking passes. Make sure the battery is fully charged. The vehicle is clean and there are no personal items (other than discussed).

  • Can I put personal items in my vehicle?

    - You may ship personal belongings inside of your car, the total weight of these items cannot be more than a hundred pounds and has to be left in the trunk or back seats (under the window line). Please note that personal belongings are not covered under insurance if they are reported as damaged or missing.

  • What should I do with my E-ZPass or automatic toll collection pass ?

Please remove your E-ZPass or any other electronic toll collection mechanism from your vehicle entirely and mail it to your destination or bring it with you. Due to the nature of the automated toll road systems, if your device is left in your car as it is transported, you will incur toll fees as if you were driving the vehicle. Safemile Auto Transport will not take responsibility for this avoidable expense.

  • Can I ship a Motorcycle or ATV/UTV?

Yes, we can ship motorcycles and ATV/UTVs . Call us at 888-277-8212  for a customized quote.

  • Can I ship a modified or oversized vehicle?

    - Yes, through our advanced network of specialized carriers nationwide, we can ship vehicles of any size. However, you will need to call for a specialized rate quote based on the dimensions of the oversized vehicle you would like to ship. Our online quote calculator will not be able to generate a quote for you because pricing via the calculator is based only on standard and unmodified vehicle sizes and specifications.

  • Can I ship a vehicle with low ground clearance?

-Yes, however any vehicle with clearance lower than 4 inches will likely need to be shipped on an enclosed trailer with a lift gate. Low-clearance vehicles simply cannot be driven onto an open trailer because the car would risk bottoming out while being loaded onto the carrier.

  • Do I need license plates on a vehicle to ship it?

    - No, we just need the vehicle and keys.

  • What is door-to-door car transport?

-Door-to-door car transport is the full service delivery of your vehicle directly from the door at the pickup location to the door at the delivery location. Our drivers do their best to get as close as physically and legally possible to the pickup and delivery locations, but in certain instances there may be restrictions preventing them from being able to safely reach your door. Our transporters need ample space to maneuver and load/unload your vehicle. If your street is too narrow, or if there are hazards such as low lining trees or power lines, drivers may ask that you meet them at a location nearby where they can safely load or unload your vehicle, such as a large parking lot or shopping center nearby.

  • What methods of car shipping services do you offer?

    - We offer open car shipping and enclosed car shipping services. Open car shipping is used much more frequently and is the type of auto transport that you see on the highway where carriers are hauling vehicles on two decks that are exposed. Enclosed car shipping is when your vehicle is shipped in a trailer which has walls and a roof, they look like a larger version of a regular eighteen-wheeler. This method is recommended for luxury, exotic or classic cars.

  • What type of truck will transport my car?

-We offer several options to meet our customers’ needs. We recommend an open trailer for transport, which is the same method used to move brand-new cars from the factory to dealerships and the most cost-effective option. If you are moving an exotic, collectible or antique vehicle, we suggest choosing an enclosed trailer for transport. Call our auto transportation experts at (888) 277-8212 for more details and to receive your free, no-obligation quote.

  • What is top load service?

    - Top load service is when your car is placed on the higher deck or level of an open auto transport trailer. This is considered to be preferable to the bottom load because the cars on the lower deck are at risk of possibly having fluid from the cars above leak on them.

  • What is the difference between open and enclosed transport?

    - Open transport is the most common car shipping method. There are two types of open-air transporters. A majority of shipments are completed with larger 8-10 car carriers. Smaller carriers which hold 2-3 cars are used for shorter, more local moves. There is typically more frequent availability for open-air carriers since they are used more often. We suggest choosing enclosed shipping methods when shipping classic, luxury or exotic vehicles. Enclosed transporters guarantee maximum protection from exposure to any open-air elements on the road. We suggest booking your enclosed transport in advance since there is limited carrier availability.

  • Is my vehicle insured during transport?

All shipments include basic liability coverage during the transit time up to $250,000 for open trailers and up to $1.000.000 for an enclosed trailer. Comprehensive insurance options are available for an elevated level of shipment coverage during transit. You will be able to select a level of coverage during the booking process. If you have further questions regarding insurance options give us a call at 888 277-8212.

  • How refunds work ?

It depends on the status of your order:

    Not dispatched order

If your order has NOT been assigned (dispatched) for loading, your payment is fully refundable.

    Dispatched order

If your order HAS been assigned (dispatched) for loading, your partial payment is not refundable but it can be used for your future car shipment needs. See Our terms & conditions for more details.

  • Why have I been asked for my credit or debit card number ?

We do not collect a deposit from you until your car is actually assigned to be picked up by a reputable driver for a price you approve.

We do, however, take your credit card information before we begin to work on finding you a carrier.

We do this because it is very common for customers to “double book” with multiple companies thinking this will give them a better shot at getting their vehicle dispatched. In fact, all car shipping companies are using the same resources to find a carrier for your vehicle. So when a car is “double booked” it only delays the process and confuses the carriers who are searching for their next vehicle to pick up on their route.

By taking your credit card information in advance, it allows us to work on finding you a driver in good faith for our efforts.

If we fail to find you a carrier at a price you are comfortable with there are NO CANCELLATION FEES and your card will NOT be charged. We only ask that you let us work on getting you the best carrier at the best price present their offers to you.

By giving us the assurance of your credit or debit card, we will do the best job possible to get you picked up on the dates you request for the price you want by a reputable carrier. We do not get paid until you get a driver dispatched to ship your vehicle, so it is always in our interest to do the best job possible for you.

  • How is my car shipping cost calculated?

    - When determining your car shipping cost, there are a few factors that we take into account in order to provide you with an accurate price quote. The mileage between the origin and destination is the biggest factor that contributes to your total rate. In addition to the distance of your relocation, another factor is the type and condition of the vehicle being shipped. The final factor is the date that your vehicle will be ready for transport. Prices are based on seasonal market demands for cars to be moved at any given time.’’ Rates might change from time to time depending on weather conditions, the demand on that particular route or national holidays.  ’’In some states, gas prices are really expensive so it will affect the cost of intrastate shipments. Each quote is prepared based on the season and the current rates based on pickup/drop off locations’’.

There are also additional options, such as enclosed carrier, top-load service and expedited service that can be added to your shipment at the time of booking for a higher level of service.

  • How do I pay for my auto shipping?

    - We accept all major credit cards, electronic transfer, money order, and bank/certified check for the deposit or full pre-payment of your shipment. If a balance is due upon delivery, it can be paid directly to the driver and can be paid in either cash, bank/certified check, or money order.

  • Can I pay the full transport cost with my credit card?

-Yes, you can pay the full transport cost via credit card. If you want to pay in full online, you can do so at the time of booking either online or by phone with a transportation agent. With this option, you can make a convenient, one-time payment with a credit or debit card. You also have the option of paying a deposit with your credit card and then paying the rest of your remaining balance with cash upon delivery.
